The Da Vinci Code. The novel that has raised an uproar in the entire world is based on the idea that Jesus was in actuality married to Mary Madeleine.

Yes...married and fathered a child.

The book is The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. A book that stayed on the New York Times best seller list for half a year... A book that is being made into a major motion picture (and a blockbuster for sure!), with Tom Hanks playing the part of the protagonist...

Now, what makes such a novel so fascinating?

The answer is simple. We all love a good conspiracy, juxtapose it with religion and you've got yourself a devil's deal (no pun intended!). That is what The Da Vinci Code is primarily about.

The conspiracy theory that is at the heart of the book is not something invented by Dan Brown, these allegations have been around for many years now, but because of its fast pace and crisp writing, the book has managed to strike up a debate all around the world (with most Christian up in arms about the authenticity about the book ).

But, what Dan Brown has managed to do with his book is revive interest on Leonardo Da Vinci, old Gnostic texts (the Gnostics were early Pagans and Christians with a very distinctive spirituality, they believed that Jesus came to the earth to save mankind from God.

Gnostic texts were found to be so threatening that many were destroyed or hidden during early Christian history.

Dan Brown has also rejuvenated the publishing industry as the book has sold 24 million copies around the world (in 44 different languages), produced eight books refuting the contents of the book and seven guides to decode and understand the book better, also the only book that has sold as many copies as The Da Vinci Code in the last two years is the Bible (Ironic???).

Phew!!! That's a lot of work done by one single book.

At the center of the plot lies the puzzling question about the identity of the Hold Grail, Here the Holy Grail is not the cup used by Jesus during the last supper, it is the person -Mary Magdalene (the alleged wife of Jesus who bore his child) and the Priory of Sion that is, till date safe guarding the blood line of Jesus, and Mary's well hidden tomb.

Now, whether you wish to believe what the novel states is entirety up to you - the reader.

There have been countless articles published documenting Brown's inaccuracies in the novel and in his theories...

but while reading the book you are transported into a realm that is so real (and full marks to Brown for his convincing skills) that, for the time it takes you to complete the book...you're a believer.

So, if you're in a mood to stay up all night- wondering in disbelief about the real truth...read this book...it's a page turner and a fascinating experience.

It may not be all true...but in a world full of skeptics, you'll fit right in!
